Grant County Health Department hosted "The Matter of Balance" class at Grant County Senior Citizen Center for the month of September.

Rosie Rivas, Monica Walker and Kathy Guaderrama were the instructors who taught this class each week for over a four week period. There was a total of eight classes twice a week Tuesdays and Thursday from 1-3 pm.

The class initially had a total of 11 participants and ended up with six who graduated September 25.

The goal of "The Matter of Balance" class is to help manage concerns about falling. According to Rivas, it helps improve balance, strength and muscles to help prevent falls, so individuals can have a better stance and balance.  Participants are taught different exercises, how to maneuver themselves around the home or where they may be to avoid falls.

"Everyone really enjoyed the classes, and it helped them feel safer," Rivas said.  "They all can feel a big improvement.   Everyone has asked if these classes could be taught again. We anticipate more classes in the future."
