Hosted by Forever Friends October 11, the "Paws for Cause" Gala was the product of a team effort.
"Forever friends rescue program is a tremendous amount of work these ladies are all like a well-oiled machine,” said Leilani Sullivan. "When Kylie says okay, 'I brought these animals to our rescue,' Denise hurries up and gets a hold of the vet clinic and gets food for them. Everybody drops what they are doing and makes it all work; it’s really a blessing."
Nichole Winner agreed with many of Sullivan's sentiments.
“(Colsie) works at the invite desk fostering animals and she helps me out with this," Winner said. “I don’t think people know how much work we put into this. I want to give a breakdown of how our lives start each morning at 4 am, we go take care of the dogs and feed them, then walk them at 6 am. We walk the dogs and put them out throughout the day; we let them out to go potty. On February 14, during the subzero temperatures, the Metcalfs let us use their shop to shelter 18 rescue dogs and we were able to save them from being out in the cold."
They have to go when Kylie gets a call.
"We have to drop everything and take care of the dogs," Winner added. "The dogs are picked up, and some have to be transported to different places. Half the time we don’t know what we are doing, we all drop everything and take care of the dogs. This happens on a day-to-day basis. We had five foster dogs; we had some puppies and one of the little puppies were showing all the dogs how to be dogs. Thank you everyone so much for coming out."
Jon Fort catered the "amazing, mouthwatering" steak dinner. Furever Friends thanked all those who lent a helping hand, including UHS cheerleaders who helped serve, Weston Wilkerson who put on a great show and the auction.
"We could not have been a success without our sponsors and donors,"
Sullivan said. "Thank you to Jesse Wilson for directing traffic. Thank you to our wonderful community for all the support! Our Gala was a great success! We raised a total of $17,500 with Grant County gives. Thanks again to everyone.”
