Tiger Cross Country Opens Season At Goodland

The Ulysses High School and Kepley Middle School cross country teams opened the season last weekend in Goodland, with several individuals placing well. The JV boys won the 5K race out of three teams, led by a third place finish by Jaxsen Salinas who finished in 21:20. Juan Carlos Torres was sixth in 21:54, Daniel Martinez eighth in 23:00, and Jesus Hernandez 10th in 23:04. Other JV finishers included Israel Correa (23:58), Steven Villeda (24:29), Dominic Orosco (24:33), Jonathan Tarango (24:36), William Ground (24:48), Helios Garcia (25:02)< Mauricio Acosta (25:16), Leonardo Salinas (29:13), Angel Velo (30:15), and Darren Marquez (32:43)

The UHS varsity boys placed fifth out of seven teams, and the top finishers included Jarod Burns (19:03.70), Luis Contreras (20:02), Josue Melendez (20:44), Malaki Delgado (21:14), Maddox Delgado (21:34), Quincy Sierra (21:44), and Sebastian Heredia (23:21).

Three JV girls competed, with Miranda Vazquez placing third in 31:04, Lizabeth Urena fifth in 32:20, and Galilea Martinez seventh in 32:38.

The Kepley girls and boys teams competed in a one mile race, with Camila Martinez leading the girls with a third place finish in 6:57.1. Aurora Reppart finished fourth in 6:57.5, Yazelyn Ontiveros seventh in 7:09, and Karen Enamorado finished in 8:54.

On the boys side, Brady Elliot was third in 6:02, Jose Torres sixth in 6:25, Sebastian Hermosillo seventh in 6:26, Aubrey Hegwood eighth in 6:28, and Andres Vazquez ninth in 6:45. Other Kepley finishers included Caleb Brown (6:55), Javier Galvez (9:43), and Nick Wise (10:14).
