The Ulysses High School Marching Band is marching into the 2025 season with an upbeat and crowd-pleasing theme—music from Bruno Mars. This year, 51 talented students make up the band, bringing both energy and dedication to the field.
Leading the way are drum majors Taicee Zermeno and Preston Hittle, both seniors. They are joined by fellow senior members Martin Garcia, Lana Cross, Emaleigh Moore, Saven Rosales, Ismael Salas, and Trey Wallace, who will mark their final season of high school marching together.
While spirits are high, the season has not been without challenges. One of the biggest obstacles has been the unusually wet fall weather. With soggy mornings and waterlogged fields, outdoor practice time has been limited. “There have been a number of mornings where we've all come in with soaked shoes and socks,” UHS Band Teacher Jonathan Yust stated. Still, the band continues to push forward, adapting as needed.
Despite the setbacks, rehearsals are going well, and the music is coming together with strength and confidence. The students have shown flexibility and resilience, making the most of every practice opportunity.
The Ulysses Marching Band will showcase their hard work at upcoming contests, beginning with their performance in Scott City October 8. Later in the month, they will compete at Fort Hays State University October 20, where they’ll take the Bruno Mars show to a larger stage.
As the season unfolds, the band remains focused on growth, teamwork, and making the community proud. Whether on a muddy practice field or under bright stadium lights, the Tiger Band are ready to make their mark this year with music that gets the crowd on its feet.
