Ulysses City Council met December 22 with a brief agenda to address several items of city business. Listed on the agenda were consent items including approval of the meeting agenda, accounts payable totaling $249,736.81, and the December 10 meeting minutes, all of which were presented to the council.
During the meeting, Ken Warner brought forward a motion to approve holiday pay for all city departments. The motion was seconded and approved by the council.
City Attorney Lynn Koehn then led a discussion regarding 2026 Cereal Malt Beverage (CMB) business licenses. Council member Mark Diaz questioned whether an individual convicted of a felony would be eligible to obtain a CMB license. Koehn stated that while the city has the right to determine whether employees have felony convictions, there was uncertainty of the specific eligibility requirements and noted Lynn would look into the matter further.
Luke Grimes added clarification regarding licensing requirements for several businesses including the Golf Course, JJ’s, Pizza Hut, U Pump It, Casey’s, and King Pins, explaining that these establishments are classified as off-premises locations and would require two different types of licenses. It was also noted that contingencies related to application fees must be included on the list. The item was motioned and approved by the council.
It was announced that the first City Council meeting in January will serve as the inauguration, with the regular meeting scheduled for later in the month.
Before adjournment, Ken Warner thanked the community for allowing him to serve and expressed appreciation to those who voted him into office. Several council members also shared holiday greetings before the meeting was adjourned.
