Ulysses' First Holistic Healing, Herb Shop Opens For Business

Flor Field unveiled Ulysses's first holistic healing and herb shop, Vida Wellness, April 7.

For Field, bringing holistic health to her hometown had been a long-time dream.

“It’s one of my biggest dreams that I’ve been working on for several years, since I closed my shop, Country Baskets," she said.

Holistic healing is centered in taking control of one’s own health.

“A lot of the imbalances happen when we are so stressed," Field explained. "That is when the illnesses attack. I think every few years there’s a new consciousness. We are evolving into a more sustainable world.”

According to Field’s experiences, the younger generation has been more open to holistic, clean living.

Flor has lived in Ulysses for 26 years.

“It’s been my second home since being raised half of my life in Mexico," she said. "I consider Ulysses my true home. I love it. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’ve been very successful in what I do and I couldn’t do it without the support of my clients, friends, and family. First, through God, I am very grateful."

Field grew up in Chihuahua, Mexico, where natural remedies always came first before conventional medicine was considered.

“Our grandmas were the doulas of the town," she said. "If we had a stomach ache, our mothers and grandmothers would tell us to drink mint tea. It’s all very rooted in the Hispanic community.”

After closing her flower shop, Flor spent a decade dedicating herself to studying alternative and natural healing, such as massage therapy, reiki energy healing, sound therapy, craniosacral therapy and aromatherapy. With her vast amount of knowledge, she created her own line of products, called Florescence. The line includes handmade items such as oils, ointments, and a variety of soaps.

Along with an impressive selection of thoughtfully made and chosen inventory, Field provides services focused on healing. Services include craniosacral therapy, reiki energy healing, chakra balancing, ionic foot detox, spiritual cleansing, sound therapy and massage therapy. One of Field’s focuses is to grow the community’s interest in trying reiki energy healing.

When asked if holistic lifestyle is more affordable than conventional medicine, Field answered in the affirmitive.

“In my own experience, yes," she said. "I haven't been to the doctor for years. As I become more educated about remedies, yes, it’s a lot more inexpensive.”

However, Field gives credit to conventional medicine.

“I’m not against doctors or clinics," she said. "They do form a big part in our society. They’re great and I’m glad they’re there. But, I think through the years, through politics and medical skyrocketing prices, people are turning to natural alternatives.”

Field hopes with her products and services, more of the community will become educated on the power of holistic healing.

“Every individual needs to learn how to listen to their body, to know your body,” said Field.

In the future, Field plans to build her selection of inventory and provide workshops to teach others how to create a more sustainable lifestyle. The community can also anticipate yoga classes and sound bath meditation.
