Ulysses News Welcomes New Staff

Posted

The staff at The Ulysses News is excited to welcome Josephine Jellison, our newest addition to the team — and she’s already hit the ground running.

Josephine grew up in Beaver, Oklahoma, where her father still resides, before moving to Amarillo, Texas. She spent 25 years working at the Valero Payment Service Center in Amarillo, building strong ties within her community. During that time, she was an active volunteer with the Juvenile Diabetes Association and the Amarillo School District’s American Promise Program. Her dedication to helping others earned her recognition as the Adult Mentor of the Year in 2014.

In 2023, Josephine married Cary Jellison, and following her retirement from Valero, the couple made their home in Ulysses. Between them, they have four adult children who live across Texas and Wichita, Kansas.

Since moving to Ulysses, Josephine has embraced community life with enthusiasm. She helped decorate for the annual Home Products Dinner — an event that paired perfectly with her love of arts and crafts. She also enjoys baking and has become a familiar face at the local Farmers Markets, both at the Historic Adobe Museum and on Main Street.

Josephine’s friendly spirit has led her to attend several Bible studies around town, and she is an active member of the Christian Church in Sublette.

Her path to The Ulysses News came about in a very down-to-earth way. One morning, she decided she wanted to find a job, stopped by Bear Creek Coffee, and happened to overhear that the newspaper was looking for help. Before long, Nancy gave her an assignment, and the rest is history.

Now, Josephine can often be seen around town snapping photos, taking notes, and gathering stories. She says she’s enjoying the opportunity to meet so many people and feels blessed to be part of a community that does so much good.

"Josephine has been a good fit for the Ulysses News," said Managing Editor/Publisher Nancy Wallace-Kletecka. "She never hesitates to help out where she is needed and is not afraid to accept a challenge of doing something she is unfamiliar with. We look forward to what she will be contributing to the paper in the future."

Welcome, Josephine — we’re glad to have you on the team!
