UPD Responds To Local School For Firearm Complaint

Ulysses Police officers responded quickly after receiving a report from a local school regarding a possible firearm.

According to a press release from the Ulysses Chief of Police Ron Vagher, his department was contacted at approximately 12:56 p.m., January 28.

Vagher said officials from USD214's Kepley Middle School reported to them  that they had received "information from a student about a possible firearm being located within the school". Vagher said in response to the information, "multiple officers were immediately dispatched to the school to investigate the report".

"During the course of the investigation, approximately 20 interviews were conducted with students and staff as well as a search of the area,"  Vagher added. "Based on the information gathered, it was determined there was no firearm located in the school and there was no active threat to the students or faculty."

Ulysses Police Department expressed their appreciation for the cooperation they had received and professionalism from school officials, staff and students.

"Their assistance was instrumental in ensuring the safety of everyone involved," Vagher said.
