Vivian Smith, 77, died Thursday, April 3, at her home in Ulysses. 

She was born March 19, 1948, in Garden City, Kan., the daughter of Charles Raymond and Mary Louise (Delong) Howard. 

After graduating high school in Ulysses in 1966, Vivian continued her education at Panhandle State University. 

While in college, she worked at JC Penney’s in Guymon. 

Vivian returned to Ulysses and lived in rural Grant County until she moved to Ulysses in 1991. 

After moving to Ulysses, she worked at IGA and Big R Standard Supply until retirement.

Vivian attended Patterson Avenue Church of God and First Baptist Church where she participated in Bible study.  She enjoyed going to Monument Lake in Colorado, driving to Fraizer Park, Sonic iced tea, and spending time with her close friends and family.

Vivian is survived by her son, Bryan Smith and wife, Shawna, Ulysses; mother, Mary Howard, Ulysses; nephew, Chris Howard and wife, Lynn and their children; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Vivian is preceded in death by her father, Raymond Howard; and brother, Wayne Howard.

Visitation was from 2-8 p.m., April 8, at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

Graveside service were at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, at the Ulysses Cemetery, with Reverend Jon Becker officiating.
