Volunteers Host Annual Fundraiser

The 10th Annual Chocolate Affair was hosted by Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital Volunteers Thursday, February 13 - just in time for Valentine's Day.

Money raised from the event goes to scholarships for Grant County residents.

"We like to give out 10 each year," said BWMH Volunteer Joyce Brom. "We present the scholarships to Grant County residents who are pursuing a medical degree."

According to Brom they say the scholarships are for $750 each; however, they present $1,000 if the funds are available from their fundraisers.

"The money we raise from this is solely for scholarships," Brom said, adding that the idea for this fundraiser came from Carol Spady.

"One year around Christmas we were thinking of fundraising ideas," Brom said. "And she suggested it."

In the beginning Brom said they had "designated pricers" who would decide how much to sell the items for.

"So many came in to purchase items we didn't have everything marked right away," she said. "So, we decided to have everyone price their own."

Brom said the volunteers appreciate the community and the hospital staff for their support of their organization.

"We generally make enough on this to sponsor at least one scholarship each year," Brom said. "And that's our goal - to sponsor at least one."
