This week’s Responder of the Week honors Tim Wilson, a dedicated volunteer firefighter with the Grant County Fire Department whose commitment to service continues a family tradition.
Wilson’s path into the fire service began with inspiration from his father, who also served as a firefighter. Growing up with that example left a lasting impression and eventually led Wilson to pursue the same calling.
Wilson has now served as a firefighter for 10 years, including the past three years with the Grant County Fire Department. During that time, he has been part of the team responding to fires, vehicle accidents, and emergency situations across the community.
For Wilson, the most rewarding part of the job is being able to help people during some of their most difficult moments.
“The best part is showing up when someone is having a bad day,” Wilson said. “They didn’t expect a fire, a wreck, or whatever the emergency might be, and we’re able to show up ready to help and hopefully make things a little better.”
Like many first responders, Wilson says the job also comes with emotional challenges.
“The hardest part is when you lose a life,” he said. “Those moments leave a mark.”
Despite those difficult experiences, Wilson remains committed to serving his community. He credits his ability to do the work to the support he receives at home from his wife and two children.
“I wouldn’t be able to do it without them,” he said.
For his dedication and willingness to step forward when the community needs help most, Tim Wilson is recognized as this week’s Responder of the Week.
