Wine & Whiskey Walk Brings Fun and Entertainment Downtown

Posted

Downtown Ulysses was filled with wine, whiskey, music and community spirit on Saturday, Aug. 22, as the 2nd Annual Wine & Whiskey Walk brought people together for an evening of fun.

The event, hosted by the Grant County Chamber and Tourism Council, featured 22 local businesses and organizations participating throughout downtown. Attendees strolled from location to location, sampling a variety of beverages, shopping, visiting with friends and enjoying live music by the Adam Mathes Band on Main Street.

Organizers sold 48 passports before the event and hoped to sell an additional 70 during the evening.

Robin Leonard said the Wine & Whiskey Walk was the “brainchild” of the Tourism Council, with the goal of making it bigger and better each year.

Last year’s event was held in October, but organizers decided to move it to August after the cooler October weather made the evening almost too cold. This year, temperatures reached about 95 degrees, but the heat did not stop people from coming out to enjoy the evening.

The event gave couples an opportunity to enjoy a date night, while groups of friends gathered for an evening out. Leonard said the Chamber and Tourism Council hope to continue creating larger events that bring people downtown and give the community more opportunities to enjoy local businesses and entertainment.

Participants checked in at Unity Plaza before beginning the walk, where IDs were verified and wristbands provided. Completed passports were turned in at the gazebo for a chance to win a wine gift basket.

The second annual Wine & Whiskey Walk was another opportunity for the community to come together, support local businesses and enjoy an evening in downtown Ulysses.
