Ye 'Ole Pirate Ship An instant Treasure With Local Children

Posted

"Ay Captain, the ship has come aground in Frazier Park".

Local kids were excited to see a new addition to Frazier Park - a pirate ship that was delivered April 15.

Ulysses City Manager Luke Grimes said the "ship" was purchased online, and was part of a "broader" conversation at the beginning of 2026 regarding building up and developing Frazier Park more.

Grimes said the bulk of the project has "kind of had the brakes put on it".

"(The pirate ship) was one of the items that was pretty low cost and seemed like it would have sizeable benefits for not that much money," he said.

Grimes had been looking at different possibilities for playground equipment and found the ship online.

"I showed it to the council and everyone liked it,
he said.

Grimes and his son went to Frazier Park to try out the new equipment the evening of April 16,

"There were 20 to 30 kids on there (the ship). For a Thursday night - that was pretty cool," he said.

Grimes credited resident Bene Garcia for the "idea".

"Bene came to meetings in 2024 and said, 'we need a pirate ship at Frazier Park'," Grimes said.

What's next on the City's agenda?

According to Grimes they will be discussing options for a new clubhouse and whether or not to even approach the idea for a clubhouse.
