Area high school hoops teams were back on the court after a long holiday hibernation, and the Ulysses Tigers ran into a buzzsaw right off the bat with a trip south to Hugoton. The hometown Eagles swept the Tigers, with the Eagle boys winning 54-43 over Ulysses, and the Lady Eagles taking down the Lady Tigers, 67-26.
Emily Tinoco scored 20 points for the Lady Eagles, including four 3-pointers, while Daniela Alfaro and Emiley Lewis each scored nine points as Hugoton jumped to a 19-2 lead in the first quarter and held a 38-13 halftime advantage.
Erisbelie Alvarado led Ulysses with 12 points, Corley McCormick added five, Clarissa Sianuqui five, Isabella Sanchez two and Piper Schultz two.
In the boys game, the Eagles and Tigers were tied after the first quarter, but the Eagles eased out to a 4-point halftime advantage and outscored Ulysses 19-11 in the third quarter to grab the win.
Julian Meraz led Ulysses with 18 points and Caden Ledesma added seven points, Aden Alvarado four, Tyce Perez four, Parker Browning four, Austyn Leyva two, and Corban Deirking two.
Jay Acosta led Hugoton with 24 points.
•On Friday, the Tigers and Lady Tigers traveled north to Goodland where the host Cowboys ungraciously swept the Tigers. The Lady Tigers fell 53-28 and the Tiger boys fell 62-47.
Julian Meraz drained three 3-pointers and scored 14 points for Ulysses in the boys game, Corban Deirking also scored 14 for the Tigers, Parker Browning hit a pair of threes as part of his 10-point effort, Aden Alvarado scored eight, and Caden Ledesma one.
The Lady Tigers were led by 19 points by Clarissa Sianuqui, Piper Schultz added three, and Devany Vitolas, Erisbelie Alvarado and Corley McCormick each scored two points.
Goodland won the JV girls game 45-29 as Yairen Molina led Ulysses with seven points, Vitolas scored four points, Abby Tapia three, Catalina Molina three, Jayda Tims three, Ava Partida two and Denise Aguilar Cano two.

Biannca Cisneros led Ashland with 25 points and Jaya Milburn added 20 as the Blue Jays led 26-21 at the half and used a 26-7 third quarter run to pull away for the win.

Four Lady Rebels scored in double figures as the girls from Montezuma led 30-0 after the first eight minutes en route to the win. Reegan Meairs led the way with 15 points, two rebounds, five assists and four steals; Jacee Deges added 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals; Kylie Stapleton 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and four steals, and Allie Reed 10 points, seven boards, four assists and four steals.

Southwestern Heights 73, Deerfield 9
The Lady Mustangs rolled to their seventh straight win in a romp over the Spartans.
Juanita Puentes scored 16 points and had 10 steals; Layla Pearl Kisner also scored 16 for Heights, adding five steals, and Melanie Fox added 10 points. Adeline Woods added seven rebounds and six steals.
Deerfield did not provide stats.
Elkhart 40, Moscow 35
Someone called the Wildcats was going to win the game, and in this case it was Elkhart, who grabbed their first win of the season while Moscow’s Wildcats dropped to 3-4.
Elkhart eased to a 4-2 advantage in the first period before Moscow ended the half with a 10-4 run to lead the game 12-8 at halftime. Elkhart outscored Moscow 32-23 in the second half to get the win.
