Delgado, Rosales qualify for state wrestling Tournament

Two Lady Tiger wrestlers emerged from the Class 4A West Regional wrestling tournament in McPherson last weekend to advance to the Class 4A State wrestling meet. Yosselin Delgado and Jeymi Rosales will represent Ulysses High School at the 4A state meet Feb. 28-March 1 at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.

In the 100-pound division, Yosselin Delgado of Ulysses defeated London Pourner of Wellington to advance to the state tournament and in the third place match of the 125-pound division, Kenzlie Crain of Lindsborg Smoky Valley defeated Jeymi Rosales of Ulysses  to send Rosales to state as the fourth place wrestler.

Ulysses placed 23rd overall in the team standings at the 4A West Regional and in addition to Roseles and Delgado, Bria Havel, Lyla Eddie, Cayley Metcalf, Britnee Hittle, Aaliyah Espino and Alexandra Garza competed.

Delgado received a bye in the championship round, falling to Teagan Walker of Larned, advancing to the consolation round where she received a bye, then defeated Alix Wilson of McPherson by fall at 2:26. In the consolation semifinals, Delgado  fell to Adrian Salcido of Colby, advancing to the fifth place match where she won by fall over Pourner.

In the 105-pound division, Bria Havel won by fall over Adalin Sipraseuth of Winfield in championsgip round 1, then fell to Alexis Wall of Towanda Circle in the quarterfinals and Audrey Escalona of Scott City in consolation round 2.

At 110 pounds, Lyla Eddie received a bye in championship round 1, then fell to Leila Schoonmaker of Marysville in championship round 2 before defeating Layla Atha of Towanda Circle in consolation round 3. Isabella Stream ended Eddie;s day wuth a dall in consolation round 4.

Rosales won by fall over Addi Williams of Mulvane in championship round 2, then won by fall over Colby’s Faith  Hoover in the quarterfinals, fell to Gabrielle Koppes of Clay Center in the semifinals, won by fall over Amalee Sigg of Winfield in the consolation semifinals before falling to Crain in the third place match.

In the 130-pound class, Caylee Metcalf advanced to consolation round 2, and at 135 pounds, Britnee Hittle also advanced to consolation round 2.

At 140 pounds, Aaliyah Espino opened the championship round with a win by fall over Lilly Steiner of Clearwater before falling to Destiny Gonzalez of Goodland and Maliyah Jackson of Buhler in consolation round 2.

Finally, Garza advanced to consolation round 2 before Dani Fisher of Goodland ended her day.

The Tony's Pizza Event Center is located at 800 The Midway in Salina. The meet begins at 9 a.m. both days and general admission prize is $11. Pre-K children are admitted free.

•The Class 4A boys regional tournament takes place Feb. 22 at Rose Hill High School, 710 S. Rose Hill Road. Student tickets are $6, adults $8 and pre-K children are admitted free.

The tournament begins at 9 a.m.

Winners at regionals advance to the state tournament, which will take place the same dats and location as the girls state meet.
