Holcomb sweeps Ulysses in GWAC double header

Lady Tigers win championship of own C-team tournament

Both the Ulysses Lady Tigers and Tigers got off to fast starts in their GWAC battles with Holcomb, but the Longhorns were patient, coming away with a sweep of Ulysses Jan. 17. The Lady Tigers fell 64-40 and the Tiger boys fell 61-44.

The Lady Tigers held a slim 6-4 advantage after the first eight minutes as Erisbelie Alvarado, Clarissa Sianuqui and Corley McCormick kept the Lady Tigers in the lead. Holcomb got their legs under them in the second quarter, outscoring Ulysses 22-11 to grab the lead at halftime. The Lady Tigers came out strong in the third, but Holcomb put it away with a 21-9 run in the final frame.

Clarissa Sianuqui led Ulysses with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers; Erisbelie Alvarado eight; Xitaly Castillo five; Abby Tapia three; Devany Vitolas two, Yoselyn Lerma two; Yairen Molina two; Isabella Sanchez two, and Piper Schultz two.

The JV Lady Tigers overcame a large deficit and cam back to withing eight before falling 39-29. Ava Partida led with 15 points.

The Lady Tigers C-team played host to a C-team tournament on Saturay, with Ulysses winnong the tournament championship.

Ulysses downed Lakin 42-26 as Partida scored 16 points and Denise Aguilar Cano nine.

The Lady Tigers downed Goodland 36-17 behind 13 points from Partida.

The Tiger boys were down 14-12 after the first eight minutes and trailed 34-25 at the half before falling behind by 12 entering the fourth.

Corban Deirking led Ulysses with 18 pointsCaden Ledesma added 12, Aden Alvarado nine and and Julian Meraz five.

Scott City 62, Ulysses 30

Erisbelie Alvarado led Ulysses with eight points, Clarissa Sianuqui and Piper Schultz each scored six, Corley McCormick and Devany Vitolas each scored three, and Abby Tapia and Xitaly Castillo each scored two.

Ransom Western Plains 54, Moscow 40

Madelyn Kraus scored 24 points for Western Plains as Moscow dropped to 3-5.

Elkhart 47, Deerfield 32

Freshman Bri Torres led Elkhart with 26 points and five rebounds, and Maia Orth added nine boards.

Stanton County 44, Walsh, Colo. 15

Avery Scott led the girls from Johnson with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Kynzi Fehringer added 10 rebounds. Maribel Carrillo scored nine points for Walsh.

Holcomb 54, Lakin 39

The Longhorns improved to 8-1.

Leoti Wichita County 66, Moscow 26

The Wildcats dropped top 3-6 on the season while Wichita County remained unbeaten at 10-0. No stats were available.

Stanton County 61, Sublette 18

The Larks jumped out to a 10-9 lead after the first quarter, but Johnson went on a 19-0 run in the second quarter and outscored Sublette 27-6 in the third to improve to 3-4 on the season. The Lady Larks were still looking for their elusive first win heading into this past Monday’s home battle against undefeated Wichita County.

Jan. 14

Scott City 56, Ulysses 48

Jackson Rumford led the Beavers with 26 points.

Julian Meraz drained 18 points to lead Ulysses, while Corban Deirking added 15, Caden Ledesma 11, Parker Browning two and Aden Alvarado two.

Stanton County 65, Walsh, Colo. 33

David Crane led Johnson with 18 points and Gerardo Robles added 13 points and six rebounds, while Arihm Gonzalez had nine boards. Hudson Courley led Walsh with 14 points and Cody Malone added seven points and 18 rebounds for Walsh.

Elkhart 73, Deerfield 65

Colten Musil had 20 points, Adriel Clymer and Maverick Najera 12 each, and Cristian Botello 10 to lead Deerfield, while Michael Lira added 11 rebounds.

Western Plains 62, Moscow 23

Moscow was still looking for that elusive first win.

Lakin 48, Holcomb 44

Holcomb eased to a 26-23 halftime lead, but the Broncs went on a 16-11 run in the third to pull away for the win.

Jan. 17

Stanton County 70, Sublette 43

The Trojans improved to 6-1 with the win, surging to a 26-16 advantage right out of the gate in the first period. David Crane led Johnson with 19 points and 10 rebounds; Gerardo Robles added 17 points; Corey Wilson 15 points, and Arihm Gonzalez 10 points and eight boards.

Sublette dropped to 3-6.
