The Kepley Middle School girls basketball teams made it home Monday night for their first games of the season in the Tiger gym, and came away with a sweep of Cimarron. The seventh graders easily dispatched the Lady Jays 49-20, while the eighth graders won a nail-biter, 27-22 to improve to 2-4 on the season.
The ladies will be at home again Thursday to face Hugoton before hitting the road Saturday with the seventh A and B teams facing Colby and Goodland. The A team will be at Colby High School and the B team at Colby Elementary. The eighth graders will face Colby and Goodland at Cimarron, with the A team in the main gym and B team in the auxiliary gym.
The seventh graders opened Monday’s game with a 14-0 run before Cimarron finally got on the board and led 15-3 after the first period and 26-9 at halftime.
Bristol Britton scored 18 points for the seventh graders, Isabella Wilson scored 17 points, Yamile Balderrama nine, and Britton Meile Meile scored six.
The eighth graders had a much tougher go at it against a motivated Cimarron squad, leading just 9-5 after the first six minutes of play and holding a slim 16-15 lead at the half. The lead changed hands several times in the third quarter and was tied 20-all heading into the final frame before the Lady Tigers made their free throws down the stretch and eased to the 5-point win.
Kinlie Hill scored 10 points, Chloe Schultz 7, Bella Kratzer 4, Victoria Martinez 2, Avery Mullen 2, and a player for Cimarron scored two points for the Lady Tigers by mistake.
