Kepley KIDWind successful in Dodge City

Posted

Kepley Middle School KIDWind Challenge teams competed in Dodge City last week and the seventh grade “Wind Warriors” placed first and will compete at state.

The 7th Grade "WindWarriors" team of Aubrey Hegwood and Bain Anderson scored the most joules(wattage) that had been recorded at a KIDWind event in Kansas with their little generator, 56.99 Joules. They received first place, Judges Choice, and most Artistic voted on by the kids that participated. This team does get to go to the State Competition on April 5 in Salina. If the team does well enough, they could qualify for the National Competition that includes other countries and will take place May 18-21 in Phoenix, Arizona.

The sixth grade team of Aiden Rice, Wyatt Syslo, Mykaylah Kincaid and Mattie Metcalf also performed very well, producing 30.19 joules. They placed but not quite enough to go on to state. Should the other team decide not to go to state they will get to fill their shoes.
