Lady Tigers Fifth At GWAC Tournament

The Ulysses High School Lady Tigers competed in the GWAC Tournament last weekend and came away with a successful run, going 3-2. Ulysses fell to Colby 25-15, 25-13; Goodland 17-25, 25-23, 17-25; beat Cimarron 23-25, 25-16, 25-21; beat Hugoton 25-20, 25-23, and defeated Cimarron again 24-26, 25-10, 25-16.

“The weekend was very successful for the Lady Tigers,” said coach Jillian Scott. “We ended the day going 3-2, finishing fifth place in the GWAC this year. 

“I feel that we have continued to make improvements all season, and I have been very pleased with how hard the girls played finishing up the stretch of 19 games in 14 days. We played some very hard fought matches throughout the day that started at 10 a.m., with the last points being scored eight hours later.”

Before the GWAC tournament, the Lady Tigers played host to Leoti Wichita County, coming out with a 4-set win 28-26, 18-25, 25-21, 25-17. The Lady Indians were no slouches, placing second in the Hi-Plains Conference Tournament last weekend with wins over Elkhart, Sublette, Stanton County, and Syracuse before falling to Lakin in the conference championship game to bring their record to 24-12 overall while Lakin improved to 22-12.

Next up for the Lady Tigers is the senior night season-finale Oct. 21 at home against Hugoton.

On Oct. 10, the ladies went to Holcomb for a dual and fell 18-25, 25-18, 17-25, 9-25, but the biggest feat pf the day was senior Samee Scott recorded her 1,000th career dig.
