Lady Tigers split with Cimarron, swept by Stanton County

The Ulysses High School softball team has come back down to earth after a torrid 3-0 start. After losing the second game of a double header April 8 against Cimaarron, the ladies were swept at home April 10 by Johnson Stanton County, 13-3 and 16-5.

Ulysses did not provide statistics for the game, but Stanton County did.

Senior Sidney Parks pitched a 3-hitter in the first game as the Lady Tigers committed 10 errors. Parks struck out six and walked three in the circle.

Summer Kendrick recorded three hits, and one run batted in, while Kynzi Fehringer, Parks and Valeria Ortega all had two hits. Karlee Nairn had two RBIs and Parks knocked in three runs and hit a homerun.

In game two, freshman Kaydence McCleary struck out seven and walked three for the win in the circle.

Mia Miravete hit a home run and knocked in four runs, Fehringer had a double and three RBIs, as did Parks; McCleary and Ortega also had two hits.

Ulysses 5, Cimarron 2

On April 8, the Lady Tigers home opener saw Ulysses go up against a strong pitcher from Cimarron who matched Harbour pitch-for pitch. The Blue Jays drew first blood, but the Lady Tigers kept pace, with the game tied 2-2 when the Lady Tigers plated three in the bottom of the sixth to win it.

Harbour struck out nine and walked four in seven innings, while Cimarron pitcher Quinn Campbell Struck out 11 batters.

Harbour had two hits including a double and an RBI while also scoring one run. Devany Vitolas recorded two hits, including a triple, while Abby Tapia, Jovi Hauser, and Yairen Molina all had base hits.

Cimarron 8, Ulysses 0

Game two of the double header went to the Blue Jays as Campbell kept up the pressure with a 4-hit shutout, striking out 10. Harbour struck out six and walked three but allowed eight runs and 13 hits.

Clarissa Sianuqui, Jeymi Rosales, Jovi Hauser and Vitolas each had one hit for Ulysses.

•The Lady Tigers were scheduled to travel to Hugoton this past Tuesday and will play Haskell County at home April 17, according to the USD 214 schedule.
