Dr. Joel Applegate, Superintendent of Schools for the USD 214 Ulysses School District,
provided an update and clarification regarding a previously issued press release concerning an incident involving an item reported to be a firearm on school grounds.
The initial press release stated that a student was in possession of a firearm at school. Following further investigation by law enforcement, the item was identified as an airsoft gun.
“We appreciate the cooperation of law
enforcement and the continued support of our school community as we work to ensure a safe learning environment for all students and staff," Applegate said.
