Syracuse sweeps Ulysses in regular season finale

For 2-and--half quarters Monday night, the Ulysses Lady Tigers played nearly flawless basketball. Everybody was hitting their marks and it showed with a 30-9 halftime advantage for The Lady Tigers. Then the second half - specifically the third quarter - happened. The visiting Syracuse Lady Bulldogs rallied with a 21-5 run in the third quarter and pulled out an epic 49-45 win to spoil senior night.

Ulysses (1-18) led 15-4 at the end of the first quarter as Clarissa Sianuqui, Isabella Sanchez, and Piper Schultz each hit three pointers in the first. Abby Tapia went off in the second with seven points and Schultz dropped another three to aide in the 30-9 halftime score. But the Lady Tigers went cold in the second half, mustering just 14 points in the final 16 minutes.

Hailey Hempton took over for Syracuse in the third, scoring 20 of her team-high 24 points in the second half to single-handedly outscore Ulysses.

Sianuqui led Ulysses with 13 points, Erisbelie Alvarado added nine, Abby Tapia seven, Piper Schultz six, Xitaly Castillo three and Devany Vitolas one.

The JV Lady Tigers fell in their game, as well, 36-29, as Castillo led with 10 points, Yairen Molina added six,Yoselyn Lerma five, Ava Partida four, Abby Tapia two, and Isabella Sanchez one.

The Tiger boys fell to Syracuse 51-40 after trailing 33-20 at halftime. Aden Alvarado scored 14 points, Parker Browing seven, Corban Dierking six, Caden Ledesma five, Tyce Perez five, and Julian Meraz three.

The JV boys won their game 49-37, breaking the game open with a 14-8 run in the fourth quarter.

The Longhorns led 32-7 at halftime and rolled to the win from there. Nine different players scored for Hodgeman County, led by Kylee Reece with nine points and seven rebounds. Satanta Dropped to 3-16.

Lakin 52, Stanton County 41

The girls from Johnson dropped to 9-9.

Feb. 18

Holcomb 61, Ulysses 26

Holcomb jumped off to a 17-2 lead in the first quarter and handed the Lady Tigers their 14th straight loss.

Clarissa Sianuqui led Ulysses with 16 points, Isabella Sanchez added three, Abby Tapia and Nayeli Romero each had two points, Yoselyn Lerma two and Erisbelie Alvarado one.

Moscow 50, Sublette 32

Lindsey Dyck and Victoria Lee each scored seven points for Sublette and Cara Leonard added seven rebounds.

Lakin led 15-11 after the first eight minutes but the girls from Leoti went on a 17-7 run in the second quarter. Wichita County finished the regular season 19-1 and won the Hi-Plains Conference.

The Wildcats out of Sharon Springs led 19-10 after the first quarter and improved to 15-4 with the win.

The Lady Bulldogs led 23-5 after the first quarter and 40-12 at the half. Sublette dropped to 0-19.

Feb. 17

Hodgeman County 67, Satanta 41

The boys from Jetmore led 19-6 in the first quarter and 33-15 at halftime. The Longhorns were led by Kendall Burns with 20 points and Tyson Younger with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Lakin 69, Stanton County 46

The Broncs jumped to a 23-12 first quarter lead and ended the game with a 20-10 run in the fourth. Otherwise, Johnson played evenly.

The Larks led 48-7 at halftime before calling off the dogs.

Caden Ledesma scored 26 points for the Tigers, who trailed 34-17 at halftime. Julian Meraz added six points, Stryker Berglund added five, Aden Alvarado five, Nic Martinez three and Corban Dierking two.
