The Ulysses High School baseball team has struggled at the beginning of the season, dropping their first six games heading into this past Tuesday’s home games against Hugoton. The Eagles came into the games in Ulysses in even worse shape, having dropped their first 10 games to open the season.
The Tigers defeated Hugoton 14-9 and 18-3 at home Tuesday but stats were not available due to deadlines. The Tigers are 2-6 so far and Hugoton 0-12.
Cimarron 19, Ulysses 4
April 8 at Cimarron, the Blue Jays scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and the Tigers were never to recover in the 4-inning loss.
Jaxon Hauser had a single and run batted in, as did Edrehik Hernandez. Csmilo Medina and Caden Ledesma each singled, Stryker Berglund doubled, and Alex Hostetler had two hits for Ulysses. Ruben Rodriguez recorded an RBI, as did Hernandez.
Medina pitched 2-and-2/3 innings, with a strikeout, Ledesma pitched an inning and Hernandez faced four batters.
Cimarron 10, Ulysses 8
In game two, the Tigers opened with a solo run in the top of the first, but fell behind 5-2 heading into the top of the fourth inning before scoring six runs to grab an 8-5 advantage. But Cimarron scored three runs to tie it in the bottom of the inning and two in the bottom of the sixth to win it.
Medina went 3-for-4 at the plate and Hernandez 2-for-4 with three runs batted in to lead Ulysses. Ruben Rodriguez had an RBI hit, Ledesma added a hit, and Hostetler a single and two RBIs.
Romero pitched six innings with four strikeouts and a walk, allowing 10 runs and 11 hits.
The Tigers will be on the road to Lakin for make-up games Thursday and will next be homes April 29 against Holcomb.
