Ulysses lost against Liberal back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result recently. The Tigers were dealt a 38-8 loss at the hands of the Redskins. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 24-0.
Ulysses didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tyce Perez and Stryker Berglund.
Xavier Tafoya had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 240 yards and two TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per carry for Liberal. That's the most rushing touchdowns Tafoya has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Blayden Betts, who rushed for 100 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries.
This is the second loss in a row for Ulysses and nudges their season record down to 2-5. As for Liberal, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Coming up, Ulysses will square off against Guymon at 7 p.m., October 25. As for Liberal, they will take on Hays at 7 p.m. that night.
The Ulysses Tigers were within striking distance, but couldn't close the gap the week prior to the Redskins matchup, as they fell 26-20 to the Smith Center Redmen.
Ulysses' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caden Ledesma, who threw for 194 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Ulysses' loss dropped their record down to 2-4 following that game. As for Smith Center, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0 for the night.
Volleyball Action
Ulysses lost against Scott recently and unfortunately they wound up with the same result the next day in some volleyball matchups. The Tigers took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Beavers.
The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Scott scored at least 17 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-18.
Ulysses' loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-19-2. As for Scott, their victory bumped their record up to 13-20.
Ulysses wasted no time getting back out on the court and played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Cimarron October 11.
As for Scott, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 loss against Holcomb on the 11th.
Ulysses was the 2-1 winner over Cimarron when they played one another a few weeks ago, but their luck changed. The Tigers fell just short of the Bluejays by a score of 2-1
Ulysses was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Cimarron work for it, especially in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-7, 23-25, 26-24.
Kynlee Frink was a one-woman wrecking crew For Cimarron. as she had 18 digs.
Ulysses' defeat dropped their record down after that matchup to 10-19-3. As for Cimarron, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-11.
