DODGE CITY – The Ulysses High School baseball team opened the 2025 season last Friday with a road trip to Dodge City, falling to the Demons 10-0 and 14-6.
In game one, the Ulysses bats were quiet in the shutout loss as Hector Renteria, Camilo Medina, and Alex Hostetler each hit singles for the only Tiger hits of the day. Jaxon Hauser and Renteria each walked to reach base.
Caden Ledesma pitched three innings for Ulysses, walking four and striking out two, and Austin Sams pitched one inning, walking one while facing eight batters.
Omar DonJuan pitched a complete game for Dodge City, with four strike outs and two walks.
The Tiger bats came alive early in game two as Ulysses jumped off to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Demons cut it to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning, tied it with a solo run in the bottom of the second and broke it open with five runs in the bottom of the third.
Ulysses plated two more in the top of fourth inning and one more in the seventh.
Hauser went 2-for-2 and knocked in two runs, Alex Hostetler 2-for-3 with one run batted in, Edrehik Hernandez was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Renteria went 1-for-3 with a triple, and Medina went 1-for-3. Hauser and Renteria were each hit by a pitch, with Hauser, Jayden Urias, Roman Romero, Medina, Ruben Rodriguez, Ledesma and Hostetler all recording a walk to reach base.
Sanchez, Urias, Medina, Ledesma and Hernandez each scored a run while Sanchez stole two bases. Hauser, Rodriguez, Ledesma and Hernandez each recorded a stolen base, as well.
Bladen Bogner had four runs batted in to lead Dodge City at the plate.
Medina pitched 2-and-one-third innings with two strike outs and five walks, Romero pitched two innings with two strike outs and seven walks, and Austin Sams an inning and two-thirds with a strike out and a walk.
The Tigers were scheduled to play Scott City at home Tuesday after deadline and will travel to Cimarron April 8.
Hugoton visits Ulysses April 18.
