The Ulysses Tigers got off to a fast start against Cimarron, but fell behind by halftime as the Blue Jays went on a 22-5 run to take a 30-21 advantage into the halftime locker room. But all that changed with a 14-8 third quarter surge that cut it to a 3-point game and a 16-10 fourth quarter run to push the Tigers to victory.

Julian Meraz was once again the workhorse, scoring 20 points to lead the Tigers, Caden Ledesma added 11 points, Luis Contrarez six, Tyce Perez five, Corban Deirking four, Aden Alvarado three, and Parker Browning two.

Trace Kopper led Cimarron with 22 points.

The Lady Tiger were down 11 points entering the fourth quarter, but free throws – and lack thereof for Cimarron – brought the Lady Tigers to a three point loss as the girls simply ran out of time.

Head coach Audrey Marshall told her team that they were the only people in the gym that want it (a win).

“We’re the only people in this gym that’s here for that reason and I need to see it,” Marshall said. “And they locked on and they turned it on.”

Erisbelie Alvarado score six of her seven points on 4-of-6 shooting from the free throw line in the final frame.

“Believe it or not, all we worked on (Dec. 16) was blocking out and free throws,” Marshall said. “And today if we would have at least hit 80% from the free throw line, it would have been our game. We were 10-for-21 from the free throw and (Cimarron was) 10-for-25.

Senior Clarissa Sianuqui led the Lady Tigers with 16 points, Alvarado scored seven, Piper Schultz five, Xitaly Castillo four, Nayali Romero two and Nayeli Sifuentes two.
