UHS Basketball Opens Season At Colby

The Ulysses High School Lady Tigers opened the 2024-2025 season on the road in Colby Dec. 6, with the Lady Tigers varsity falling to the Lady Eagles 63-24. The Tiger boys fell to the host Eagles 59-44.

The Lady Tigers got off to a slow start as Colby opened the game with a 19-5 first quarter run and led 39-10 at halftime.

Clarissa Sianuqui led Ulysses with 13 points, Xitaly Castillo added five, Erisbelie Alvarado four, Devany Vitolas and Piper Schultz one point each. Three players scored in double figures for Colby, led by Shaylee Holzmeister and Alisabeth Barton with 13 points each.

•The C-team Lady Tigers fell to Colby 12-9 in two quarters of action as AbbyTapia scored three points, Catalina Molina two, Ava Partida two and Denise Aguilar Cano two. Fia Tubbs scored six points for Colby.

•The Junior Varsity Lady Tigers fell 48-40 but scored half of their total in a furious fourth quarter comeback after trailing 40-20 at the end of three. Xitaly Castillo led Ulysses with 16 points, six of those in the furious fourth quarter. Ava Partida added six points, Yairen Molina and Isabella Sanchez five points each, Catalina Molina and Denise Aguilar Cano three points each, and Jayda Tims two points. Kalyssa Bandy led Colby with 10 points and nine other Lady Eagles scored in single digits.

The varsity boys found themselves in a shootout early and Colby led 21-14 after the first eight minutes of play and the Eagles led 33-21 at halftime. Ulysses outscored Colby 17-1 in the fourth.

Parker Browning was leading scorer for the Tigers with 13 points, Caden Ledesma added 11, Julian Meraz six, Aden Alvarado five, Tyce Perez four, Luis Contrarez three and Corbin Deirking two.

Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers are competing in the Top Side Tipoff Tournament in Goodland beginning today with the Lady Tigers facing off against Burlington, Colorado at 3 p.m. Central and the boys will face Lakin at 5 p.m. Central.
