UHS Boys, Varsity Girls Wrestling Strong In Pratt

The Ulysses High School junior varsity boys took 16 wrestlers to the opening tournament at Pratt and went 36-31 with two first place winners.

“Last year we only took four athletes and their combined record was 4-11,” said coach Cade Albert. “This year we took 16 and their combined record was 36-31 with two first place winners Steven Villeda and and Lucas Morphis. “They did not keep team score but we would’ve got second place out of 17 teams with 172 points. Garden City who brought 23 athletes won the tournament. We beat GWAC teams Goodland, Colby, Hugoton, and Scott City.”

Varsity Boys

UHS Tiger Varsity boys had four take home medals: Roman Romero, 4th; Sebastian Heredia, 2nd; Jaxsen Salinas, 1st; and Preston Hittle, 3rd.

Lady Tigers

All Lady Tiger Varisty Girls experienced their first win for the season Saturday as they competed in Pratt. As a team Ulysses finished ninth out of 22 and had two make the podium - Yosselin Delgado at 100 pounds placed second and Jeymi Rosales at 125 pounds placed second.

“We also took a few of our JV girls who assisted us and two awesome cheerleaders and of course three of our managers who keep us together,” said coach Jen Hittle.
