Posted

This past weekend at the 40th Annual Colby Orange and Black basketball tournament, some special awards were given and UHS was fortunate enough to be recognized.

First, Ulysses was awarded the "Marvin Stark Spirit Award" for the 3rd straight year. This award is presented in memory of Marvin Stark, who was the Colby High School principal for many years until his death in 1989.  This award goes to the team and community that best exemplifies an outstanding rating for sportsmanship with their cheerleaders, cheering section, team, and fans.

Second, UHS coaches, Matt Cox and Audrey Marshall were both awarded the "Tom Bowen Coaches Award."  This award is voted on by the tournament officials and is based on a set of criteria from basketball knowledge and fundamentals of the game to sportsmanship and strong work ethics and sound moral character to motivate their team in a positive way no matter the game situation at hand.  Congratulations Coach Cox and Coach Marshall!

A comment made to UHS athletic director Travis McAtee at the tournament:

"Your coaches and kids show total class."
