USD 214 Schools Ready to Welcome Back Students

The halls of USD 214 schools will soon be filled with the sounds of students as the district prepares to welcome everyone back for the 2026-27 school year.

Online enrollment opened July 15, while in-person enrollment was held August 6-7. Hickok Elementary School serves students in PreK-2nd grade. Principal Marcia Raines said the district continues to see more families choosing the online enrollment option, while fewer families are completing the process in person.

“Online enrollment is increasing, and in-person enrollment is lowering,” Raines said.

Sullivan Elementary School, which serves students in 3rd-5th grades, is also preparing for students to return. Principal Kerri Gaskil said she and her staff are excited for the new school year and have been working hard to make sure the building is ready.

“We are super excited to have all the students back to the building again,” Gaskil said. “We made a few updates to our building, including repainting all the interior hallways. Maintenance, grounds and custodians have all worked hard to get the building ready for the first day of school.”

Kepley Middle School will welcome students in 6th-8th grades. Principal Amy Wartman said she is looking forward to having students back in the building and seeing them participate in all the activities KMS has to offer.

“I think everyone is ready for a routine again,” Wartman said.

Ulysses High School serves students in 9th-12th grades. Principal Justin Coffey said in-person enrollment has been good and it has been great seeing students and families coming into the building as everyone prepares for the upcoming school year.

This year’s theme at Ulysses High School is Locked In.

The first day of school for all USD 214 students is August 19. Fall sports will begin August 17, which is also the start of Kindergarten Camp for incoming kindergarten students.

With buildings prepared, staff ready and excitement building, USD 214 schools are looking forward to welcoming students back for another successful school year.
