Benedict Conrad Meier Jr. (Ben or Benny),was born June 30, 1942, in Garden City.

Entered into rest July 5, at his home in Neosho, Mo., at the age of 82.

Benny served in the United States Army as a Sergeant 1st Class, in active duty for two years, and in the reserves for 17 years.

He worked for Garden City Co-op, then Sullivan Inc., in Ulysses, and also Garvey Elevators in Dighton, Kan.

He was a 49-year member of the Garden City VFW, plus a member of the DAV and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Carroll Meier, Neosho, M., three children: LaDawna and husband,  Dale Godfrey, Ulysses, Benedict (Benny) and wife, SherreMeier, Yucaipa, Calif., and Kevin Meier, Stella, Mo., six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; two brothers: Richard and wife, Cathy Meier, Yukon,Okla., and Alan Meier, Garden City, Kan., nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Benedict (Ben) Meier Sr., and Mae (Bender) Meier; his first wife, Lynetta (Deardon) Meier; one brother, Gerald, and sister-in-law, Sun I Meier; one sister, Patricia Major, and brother-in-law, Val Major; son-in-law Ryan O’Neal; nephew, Jacob Meier and his beloved dog, Febe.

Memorial service will take place at 10 am Tuesday, September 17, at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, Kan., burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard.
