Irene Chavez, 90, died Friday, August 23, at her home in Garnett, Kans., surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born September 10, 1933, in Fort McKavett, Texas, the daughter of Enrique and Clara (Hernandez) Saucedo.
Irene grew up in Texas and married Simon N. Chavez October 5, 1952, in Knox City, Texas.
She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casinos. Time spent with her family and friends meant the most to her.
Irene is survived by her children: Bobby Chavez and wife, Rosa, Las Vegas, Nev., Danny Chavez, Joplin, Mo., Becky Partida and husband, Freddy, Garnett, Kans., Simon Chavez Jr. and wife, Grace, Ulysses, Rose Rodriquez and husband, Richard, Brownfield, Texas, Stella Chavez, Ulysses, and Virginia Pauda and husband, Danny, Wichita; siblings: Francis Contreras, Andrea Ramirez, Juan Saucedo, Rosa Molina and Hector Saucedo; 51 grandchildren; 160 great-grandchildren; and 35 great-great-grandchildren.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents; Enrique and Clara Saucedo; husband, Simon N. Chavez; daughter, Ester Chavez; son, Ricky Chavez; grandson, Ejon Velardes; and siblings: Abel, Jesse, Henry and Linda Saucedo.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., August 30, at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
Rosary was at 7 p.m., August 30, at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
Funeral Mass took place at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 31, at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, with Reverend Eric Gyamfi officiating.
Interment followed at the Ulysses Cemetery.
