Ramona Lea Straw-Catherwood earned her wings June 18, in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Ramona was loved dearly and was surrounded by family at the time of passing.

Ramona was born in Benton, Kans., May 23, 1940.  She was the daughter of Floyd "Pick" and Ivy Campbell Straw and had one sister Sondra Straw.

She spent most of her adult life in Ulysses, before moving to Oklahoma City to live and travel with her best friend, Karen Atkinson.

Her favorite hobbies were Gun & Coin shows, bowling, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals, jeep touring in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, traveling the world with great friends, her beloved cats and extravagant holiday decorations.

Ramona worked as an Oiler Repairman at Cities Service Natural Gas Co. as well as a Gas plant Operator for Williams Natural Gas from 1978-1998.  She was also employed at Webber Supply, Ulysses Laundry and as a waitress. 

Ramona’s pride and joy was her son Stephen, born in 1965.

Ramona loved to travel and continued to do that as much as possible. She was very active and held offices in her beloved LRRP Army Ranger Reunions.

Ramona is survived by many cousins, as well as a host of friends who were like family to her. Ramona was preceded in death by her parents; Sister Sondra Straw; and son, Stephen White.

A Memorial Service is planned for 2 p.m., Saturday, July 20, at Bear Creek Coffee, 107 N. Baughman St., Ulysses. Please bring your favorite stories and memories to share as part of the service.
